CPN (UML) tried to get Party Secretary Top Bahadur Rayamajhi to surrender to the police after getting implicated in the case of fake Bhutanese refugees.

With the arrest warrant already issued, UML planned to give in to the police after seeing no possibility of rescuing Rayamajhi.

However, UML failed to do so since Rayamajhi was not in contact with the party.

The UML secretariat meeting held on Tuesday called on Rayamajhi to assist in the police investigation.

"The law should be obeyed, violation of which will disadvantage the party, that's why Top Bahadur should report to the police," Vice Chairman Astalaxmi Shakya told Nepalkhabar, citing the conclusion of the secretariat meeting, "He should make it clear legally whether he is guilty or not."

There is an allegation that Rayamajhi was protected by UML.

That is why Oli spent some time telling the story of the Bhutanese refugees in the secretariat meeting convened to set the agenda of the Central Committee.

After that, while giving a briefing on the case of Rayamajhi, he indicated that the arrest of Top Bahadur Rayamajhi cannot be stopped.

"We don't know what Top Bahadur, who was allegedly involved in the case, did,” Oli said, “But it cannot be stopped after the arrest warrant has been issued.”

Oli has met with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ four times since Rayamajhi's name came up in the fake refugee case.

He was serious about Rayamajhi and was trying to deal with the problem politically.

It was not good for Oli to issue an arrest warrant against Rayamajhi, the former deputy prime minister, party secretary, an MP elected from Arghakhanchi.

That is why Chairman Oli on May 4 and since then, met with Prachanda in Singha Durbar and sometimes in Baluwatar.

However, a source close to Baluwatar said that the prime minister responded that all the leaders should stand united on the issue of corruption.

Oli alleged that the leaders of other parties are involved in creating fake refugees and objected to the fact that only a few were shown to be guilty.

Then on Wednesday (May 10), the influential Nepali Congress leader Bal Krishna Khand was arrested by the police from his residence.

Following Bal Krishna's arrest, UML also issued a statement saying that Top Bahadur Rayamajhi has been suspended.

UML has said that Rayamajhi has been suspended for respecting the rule of law.

However, a leader told Nepalkhabar that a tough decision had to be taken after the party fell into trouble because of him.

"It would have been better if he had assisted the law by producing himself to the police. The truth will come out whether he is guilty or not," said the leader, "But, the party was not in contact with Rayamajhi."

On Wednesday, Top Bahadur wrote a letter to the Parliament Secretariat stating that he was ill and was undergoing treatment.
