The government is making preparations to amend laws in order to withdraw cases filed against Resham Chaudhary who is currently serving a jail-term on the charge of orchestrating Tikapur carnage.

To release Chaudhary, the mastermind of Tikarpur killing that took lives of eight individuals including an SSP Laxman Neupane in Kailali on August 24, 2015, the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs submitted Some Nepal Laws Amendment Bill at the Federal Parliament Secretariat today.

The government is making preparations to add sub section 116 (A) to the Section 116 of the National Criminal Procedure (Code) Act, 2074 to withdraw the case against Chaudhary.

Once the bill is passed, the cases filed against the cadres including Chaudhary, the patron of Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP), and that of Nepal Communist Party led by Netra Bikram Chand alias Biplav will be withdrawn.

The cadres including Chaudhary who were convicted of murder in the Tharuhat Movement including Tikapur killing are still languishing in the prison.

With Chaudhary as its patron, NUP is in the ruling alliance. Ranjita Shrestha, the chairman of NUP, is currently the Minister for Land Management, Cooperative and Poverty Alleviation in the federal government.
