Long-route public transport fares have gone down.
With the reduction in the price of diesel, the government has also reduced the fares for both passenger and freight vehicles plying long routes.
The fare of inter-provincial public transport is slashed by 3.2 percent. Public transport fares are adjusted when fuel prices rise above or go down below 5 percent.
The current fare was fixed in June last year when the price of diesel was Rs.172. Now the price of diesel has gone down by Rs 17 to reach at Rs 155 per liter.
The Transport Management Department has reduced the fare of freight vehicles in the hilly areas by 4.19% and in the Terai region by 4.65%.
However, deluxe vehicles are allowed to charge up to 20 percent more than the prescribed fare.
