Refugee case: Evidence collected by police during investigation

A charge-sheet has been filed in the court against 30 accused for five crimes in the fake refugee case.

The District Government Attorney’s Office filed the charge-sheet on the 60th day after the investigation started in the District Court Kathmandu on Wednesday.

As many as 30 people have been made accused including 16 who were arrested. They have been charged with fraud, organized crime, forgery of official documents, treason and integrated crime.

Along with the defendant's statement, other evidence has also been presented in the indictment. The evidence found in the mobile phones of the defendants and the financial transactions are taken as key evidence.

It is mentioned in the indictment that 43 other evidence were collected.

Among those arrested in this case are CPN (UML) leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, Nepali Congress leader and former Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand, then Home Secretary Teknarayan Pandey, Bhutanese refugee leader Teknath Rijal, security adviser to then Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’, Indrajit Rai, Chairman of Hajj Committee Shamsher Miya, former lawmaker Angtawa Sherpa. , the then Home Minister Khan's personal secretary, Narendra KC, Sandeep Rayamajhi, son of Top Bahadur Rayamajhi.

Keshav Dulal, Sanu Bhandari, Sandesh Sharma, Sagar Rai, Tanka Gurung, Govinda Chaudhary and Ram Sharan KC are also in police custody.

Bachan Jha, Rama Thapa and Gokul Thapa, who are absconding, have also been implicated by the police, but they are not defendants in the present case.

Former Home Minister Badal's son Pratik and security adviser Indrajit's son Niraj are among the fugitives.

Similarly, there are also Keshav Tuladhar, Ashok Pokhrel, Lakshmi Maharjan, Dhiren Rai, Mohan Rai, Deepa Humagain, Sunil Budhathoki, Binita Limbu, Niranjan Kumar Kharel, Rajesh Aryal, Hari Bhakta Maharjan and Ashish Budhathoki are the defendants.
