Pro-identity groups, who have been demonstrating after Province 1 adopted Koshi as its official name, have resumed protests again.
While the meeting of the Koshi Province assembly was being held in the province assembly building in Biratnagar, irate groups staged a fierce demonstration outside the assembly building.
Dozens of people including the police were injured in the clash that ensued after the security personnel intervened in the demonstration.
While there was a strong protest on the streets, the parliamentarians have demanded that the provincial government should immediately hold a dialogue with the protestors.
During the meeting of the Province Assembly, the MPs said that after naming Koshi, they are afraid to even go to public places.
CPN (Unified Socialist) MP Kamal Jabegu said, “It feels like I am in jail due to this dispute. It is difficult to even go to public places,” calling for addressing the problem through peaceful dialogues.
He further demanded that the provincial government should form a committee to resolve the current problem through negotiations to maintain peace and security in the province.
Likewise, Nepali Congress MP Khagensingh Hangam said that the government is unable to carry out daily duties due to the agitation.
Before the members of the Provincial Assembly expressed their views, Speaker Baburam Gautam said that the current problem would be solved through the constitutional provision.
