President Ram Chandra Paudel has certified the Citizenship Bill.

According to a source at Sheetal Niwas, President Paudel certified the Citizenship Bill on Wednesday morning.

"The Citizenship Bill has been authenticated", the source told Nepalkhabar, "The President Paudel has certified the Bill."

The Citizenship Bill was gathering dust at Sheetal Niwas after former President Bidya Devi Bhandari did not validate it even though it was passed twice by the Parliament.

On May 26, the current government had decided to request President Paudel to athenticate the Citizenship Bill.

Earlier, President Bhandari sent back the Bill passed by both houses of the Federal Parliament on August 14, 2022.

The Bill, which was sent to Sheetal Niwas for verification again after passing it by both houses of the Federal Parliament on September 5, was supposed to be athenticated by September 21.

She had a constitutional obligation to certify the Bill as it was sent to Sheetal Niwas for the second time. However, Bhandari dillydallied without certifying the Bill.

The same stalled Bill was certified by the incumbent President Paudel.
