President Bhandari to be honored with WPL Trailblazer Award

President Bidya Devi Bhandari is leaving for the Republic of Iceland on Monday to attend Reykjavík Global Forum to be held in Reykjavík on November 8-10.

Reykjavík Global Forum -- an international forum of women leaders -- will be co-hosted by Women Political Leaders (WPL), the Government of Iceland, and the Parliament of Iceland.

Issuing a press note on Friday, the Office of the President said, "President Bidya Devi Bhandari will embark on an official visit to Iceland to attend Reykjavík Global Forum. The Head of State will receive WPL Trailblazer Award."

Initiated in 2018, the Forum is an annual event convening women leaders across the sectors, including politics, business, civil society, academia, arts, and media. 

It is a platform to deliberate on the best practices on gender equality, mpowerment and women leadership.
The WPL has decided to confer this year's prestigious WPL Trailblazer Award on President Bhandari. The Award is presented to incumbent and former women Presidents and Prime Ministers in recognition of the achievements of leading women politicians.

During the visit, President is scheduled to receive the Award and deliver an acceptance as well keynote speech in the Forum.

Senior officials from the Office of the President and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will  accompany Bhandari. Bhandari will return to Nepal on November 12.
