ACC U16 Cup: Nepal registers 225-run win against Thailand

Enters semifinals with one game remaining

Nepal registered a comfortable 225-run victory against Thailand in the ongoing ACC Men’s U-16 Eastern Zone Cup held in Malaysia.

Chasing a mammoth target of 270 runs set by Nepal, Thailand were bowled out after scoring 44 runs in 13.2 overs.

Ishan Banerjee scored 16 runs and Danuphon Fuangyotpinit scored 12 runs for Thailand. No other batsmen could touch double-digit scores.

Thailand's batsmen could not stay at the crease for long against Nepal's lethal bowling.

To stop Thailand at a paltry score, Santosh Yadav took 5 wickets giving away 8 runs in 3.2 overs with 1 maiden.

Ashok Dhami took 3 wickets with 2 maidens in 3 overs at the expense of 4 runs. Abhisek Tiwari took 2 wickets for 21 runs with 1 maiden in 4 overs.

Prior to that, Nepal, who elected to bat first after winning the toss on Wednesday in Bangi, Malaysia, lost 8 wickets in the scheduled 35 overs and made a total of 269 runs.

For the first wicket, openers Niraj Kumar Yadav and Suryanshu Koirala shared a century partnership of 110 runs helping Nepal set a huge target.

Suryanshu was bowled out by Jet Sada for 40 runs off 55 balls with the help of 3 fours. Niraj Kumar Yadav, who hit 7 fours and 6 sixes in 43 balls, was caught out after scoring 74 runs. Niraj was caught out by Jet Sada off Ishan Banerjee.

Naren Bhatt and Santosh Yadav shared a partnership of 71 runs for the fourth wicket. Narine remained unbeaten on 55 off 43 balls with 5 fours. Santosh was bowled out for 42 runs off 36 balls with 4 fours and 1 six.

Captain Abhishek Tiwari was dismissed for 14, Ashish Luhar for 13, Deepu Kumar for 6 and Ashok Dhami for 5 runs.

Thailand's Nitpakhan Manuwoon, Phanuwat Desungnoen and Ishan Banerjee took 2 wickets each. Jet Sada and Piawat Nodri took one wicket each.

With the victory against Thailand, Nepal has reached the semi-finals with one game remaining.

Nepal is in Group A with Thailand and Malaysia. From Group A, Nepal and Malaysia have reached the last four.

In the first match of the group, Malaysia defeated Thailand by 118 runs. In the second match of the group stage, Nepal will play against Malaysia on Friday.

In Group B there are Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Maldives.
