Nepal has received approval from India's Ministry of Power to export 180 MW of electricity.
Nepal had previously received permission to sell 452 megawatts of electricity to India. After India will buy electricity for four more projects, Nepal will now sell a total of 632 MW of electricity.
Nepal Electricity Authority Spokesman Suresh Bhattarai informed that Nepal has now received permission to sell 70 MW of electricity from Mahendranagar-Gaddachauki transmission line and 110 MW from Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur transmission line.
India is going to take this electricity to the Indian State of Haryana.
The 70 MW of electricity from Upper Chameliya and Upper Kalanga Gad hydropower projects will go to India through Mahendranagar-Gaddachauki transmission line, while electricity from Solukhola (Dudhkoshi) and Dordikhola hydropower projects will go through Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur transmission line.
According to the Nepal Electricity Authority, electricity from Mahendranagar will be sold at the Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) rate, while electricity from Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur will be sold at Rs 8.4 per unit, i.e. INR 5.25.
To sell electricity in IEX, the price of electricity is fixed at different rates every day through an auction process.
The medium-term power trade agreement signed between the Nepal Electricity Authority and NTPC Power Trading Corporation some time ago has an agreement to buy and sell electricity up to 200 megawatts at INR 5.25 per unit.
Even if 83.42 MW of Solukhola (Dudhkoshi) Project, 42.68 MW of Super Madi Hydropower Project, 40.74 MW of Mistri Khola Hydroelectric Project, 26.19 MW of Dordi Khola Hydroelectric Project and 6.67 MW of Upper Chaku 'A' Hydropower Project are to be exported to India, only Solukhola and Super Madi Hydroelectric Projects have received permission.
