Kailash Dhungel of Ramechhap has been elected as the chairman of the CPN (UML) Bagmati Province Committee.

The first convention of the UML Bagmati Committee which lasted for about a week elected Dhungel to the post of chairman.

Dhungel, who had the support of UML central Chairman KP Sharma Oli and leader Mahesh Basnet, defeated Krishna Prasad Dahal of Makwanpur.

UML Bagmati Province Committee went for the polls at the Tulsilal Memorial Foundation in Chysal, Lalitpur on Friday after efforts to unanimously elect the leadership failed.

In the elections, both Dhungel and Dahal contested the elections by forming separate panels. When three of the five candidates for the presidency withdrew their candidacies, the election was held between the two candidates.

Similarly, Dawa Dorje Lama won the vice presidency from the Dhungel panel.

On the other hand, Nawaraj Silwal of Dahal panel, who lost the elections to the post of presidency, has won the post of secretary.

Prem Kumar Maharjan from Dhungel panel has been elected as deputy secretary. Likewise, Bhakta Kumari Lama from the Dahal panel has won the deputy secretary (women).
