Govt lifts ban on import of betel nuts, peas, peppercorns

The government has decided to lift a ban on the import of betel nuts, peas and peppercorns for the current financial year.

Publishing a notice in the national gazette on Friday, the governemt said that the ban has been removed for industrial purposes.

Two years ago, a procedure was formulated to allow imports of these goods for industrial purposes. The ban on imports has been lifted based on that procedures, said the government.

The government had banned these items under Section 3 (1) of the Export Imports (Control) Act, 2013.
