Internet users up 500,000 in one year

The number of internet users has gone up by 566 thousand in the fiscal year 079/080, compared to the fiscal year 078/079.

According to Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA), the total number of internet users have reached 2.7 million. It was 2 million 234 thousand till the previous fiscal year.

WorldLink Communications and Dish Media Networks have aggressively expanded their market penetrations.

WorldLink has now 781,000 customers. Last year, it was 660,000. Dish Media Network has 290,000. By mid-July 2022, there were only 132,000 customers.

While most of the companies have increased their customers, the government-owned Nepal Telecommunications Corporation has not been able to increase the number. The NTC has reached 292,000 customers, the same number which was one year ago.

CG Communications has 53, 526 customers.

Similarly, Classic Tech has reached 280,000 from 230,000.

Subisu has reached 271,000 from 236,000 customers in the past one year.

Compared to 230,000 customers in the previous year, Vianet's customers have reached 264,000.

Websurfer’s customers have reached 147,000. It was only 63,000 one year ago. Techminds Network has 117,000 customers. It was 14,000 last year.

WorldLink holds one-third market share
WorldLink's market share among Internet service providers is about 29 percent. WorldLink has a market share of 28.91 percent while its nearest rivals hold around 10 percent.

Nepal Telecom has 10.82 percent market share, Classic Tech (10.37 percent), Subisu (10.5 percent), Vianet (9.78 percent) and Dish Media Network has 8.50 percent market share.

Similarly, Websurfer and Broadlink have a 5.5 percent market share and CG Communications has 2 percent market share, according to the Nepal Communications Authority.
