​​​​​​​Death toll in Jajarkot quake climbs to 154; 62 killed in Rukum West alone

The death toll from the earthquake that struck hilly parts of Karnali Province with its epicenter in Jajarkot on Friday night has reached 154 so far.

According to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center, Lainchaur, a 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck at 11:47 pm on Friday with its epicenter at Ramidanda in Jajarkot. Several aftershocks have occurred since then.

According to the latest updates, 92 have died in Jajarkot and 62 have been killed in Rukum West. More than 150 people have been injured.

Three among those injured due to earthquake in Rukum West have been airlifted to Province Hospital in Surkhet on a Nepali Army Army helicopter.

Deputy Mayor of Aathbiskot Municipality of Rukum West, Dhan Kumari Shahi, has told Nepalkhabar that 52 people have died in her municipality alone due to earthquake.

Similarly, 60 others have sustained injuries. Of them, three critically injured have been airlifted to Karnali Province Hospital.

According to Shahi, the death toll and the number of injured may rise as the details and the damages incurred by the earthquake are being collected.
