The Supreme Court (SC) has refused to issue an interim order on the government’s decision to ban popular video-sharing social media platform TikTok.
The apex court refused to issue an interim order on the TikTok ban while hearing all the petitions simultaneously. Instead, a single bench of Justice Binod Sharma on Tuesday issued a show cause notice in the name of the government seeking justification for banning Tiktok.
As many as 11 writ petitions were filed in the Supreme Court after the government decided to ban TikTok in Nepal.
Senior Advocate Dinesh Tripathi, advocates Ananta Raj Luitel, Sunil Ranjan Singh, Trilok Bahadur Chand, Ram Krishna Banjara, Prem Raj Silwal, Yagyamani Neupane, Parshuram Pandey, Bhadra Rrasad Nepal, Anjan Dhital and others filed the writ petitions.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers on November 13 banned TikTok stating that it disrupted social harmony and familial unity.
