Heavyweights strike deal on TRC 17 years after CPA

The top-notch leaders of the major three political parties have agreed to finalize the rest of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA).

In a meeting held at the Prime Minister's Official Residence in Baluwatar on Tuesday, CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', who is also the Prime Minister, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli struck a deal 17 years after the signing of the CPA.

According to Prime Minister's Press Advisor Govinda Acharya, the top leaders discussed various aspects of the CPA reviewed the progress, and struck a deal on the Bill to amend the Disappeared Persons' Investigation and Truth and Reconciliation Commission Act, 2071.

"The Bill is in the parliament, the three top leaders have reached a general understanding on the day of the peace agreement that TRC will be moved forward," Prime Minister's Press Advisor Acharya told Nepalkhabar, "The Bill will be endorsed in the winter session. They have given the same message today."

Bringing the 10-year-long armed conflict to a logical conclusion, the CPA was signed by the then CPN (Maoist) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' and then Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala on November 21, 2006.
