Supreme Court: Show cause for declaring prohibited zone in Kathmandu

The Supreme Court of Nepal has issued a show cause order in the name of the government for declaring various places as prohibited zones in Kathmandu.

Hearing the writ petition filed against the government’s decision to declare some areas of the federal capital as prohibited zones, a single bench of Justice Ananda Mohan Bhattarai issued this order on Friday.

Kathmandu District Administration Office (DAO), Kathmandu on Tuesday (November 21) declared the area from Maitighar Mandala to New Baneshwar as the prohibited zone in view of the demonstrations to be staged by Durga Prasai and Youth Association Nepal, the youth wing of main opposition CPN (UML). 

Advocate Swagat Nepal lodged a writ petition at the Supreme Court demanding a stay order on the local administration’s decision.

The Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the DAO, Kathmandu have been mentioned as the defendants in the writ lodged by advocate Nepal.
