The Parliamentary Hearing Committee (PHC) has endorsed the name of Secretary Bharat Raj Paudyal as the Nepali Ambassador to Canada.
A meeting of the PHC held in Singha Durbar on Sunday unanimously endorsed Paudyal’s name.
Now, the President will appoint Paudyal as the Nepali Ambassador to Canada once an agremo sent by the Nepal government will be accepted by the Canada government.
Aside from discharging duties as the Nepali Ambassador to Canada, Paudyal will also serve as the non-residential ambassador to Cuba, Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Haiti as well as the permanent representative to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
In the committee meeting, MPs asked Paudyal questions about the allegations and complaints leveled against him. Responding to MPs’ questions, Paudyal said (that) he had not misused his position, nor had he committed any wrongdoings out of malice.
He also expressed to the PHC his commitment to work in the interest of the country as an ambassador and increase the respect of the nation.
Paudyal is also the incumbent secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. However, he is retiring from service on December 6.
He took charge as the secretary three years ago. He has also worked as the head of the Ministry's United Nations, International Organizations and International Law Division under the Foreign Ministry, spokesperson for the Ministry and Nepali Ambassador to Pakistan.
