The Election Commission (EC) of Nepal has informed that those who feature in the closed list of proportional representation (PR) cannot file their candidatures for the members of the National Assembly (NA).
Candidates who feature in the PR list are not eligible to become the members of the National Assembly pursuant to the Section 30 of the House of Representatives Election Act, 2017 and the ‘restrictive clause’ of the Section 30 (1) of the Province Assembly Elections Act, 2017, said Surya Prasad Aryal, the joint spokesperson for the EC.
“A candidate who features in the PR list of the House of Representatives and the Province Assembly elections are not eligible, unless the candidate’s name is removed from the list, to become a member of the National Assembly in accordance with the Section 30 of House of Representatives Elections Act, 2017 and the restrictive clause of the Section 30 (1) of the Province Assembly Elections Act, 2017,” reads the statement issued by the EC today.
The election of the House of Representatives (HoR) is scheduled for January 25, 2024. The EC has already approved the elections program.
