Govt unveils name-list of six Nepalis killed in Russia-Ukraine war

The government has made public a name-list of six Nepali nationals who lost their lives while serving in the Russian Army against Ukraine.

Issuing a press note on Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Nepal government has requested the Russia government to send in the dead bodies of those Nepalis who perished in the line of duty.

According to the Ministry, the deceased are:

  1. Sandeep Thapaliya (Gorkha)
  2. Rupak Karki (Banganga-1, Kapilvastu)
  3. Duban Rai (Kaski)
  4. Pitam Karki (Putali Bazaar-5, Syangja)
  5. Raj Kumar Roka (Melung-6, Dolakha)
  6. Ganga Raj Moktan (Ilam-5, Ilam)

The government has also asked the Russian government not to recruit Nepali citizens as soldiers and, if done so, deport them immediately, according to the Ministry.

The Ministry has further said that a diplomatic initiation is underway to free Bibek Khatri who was held captive as a Russian army in Ukraine.
