Nepal Communist Party (NCP) General Secretary Netra Bikram Chand alias ‘Biplav’ has announced protest programs against an arrest warrant issued against four leaders including him by the court.

The protest programs have been announced after the Kathmandu District Court issued the arrest warrant against General Secretary Biplav, Spokesperson Khadga Bahadur Bishwakarma (Prakanda), politburo member Maila Lama and Raju Karki, the chairman of All Nepal Peasants Federation, reviving the four-year-old case.

The case was filed against them on December 26, 2019, accusing them of jeopardizing the relations among federal units and various castes and communities, thereby committing an offense against the State.

Biplav in a press note has dubbed this court’s decision as “illegal, uncivilized and anarchic and the blatant violation of the 3-point agreement between the government and the NCP reached on March 5, 2021.”

One of the three points laid down in the agreement was to withdraw cases leveled against the leaders and cadres and release the jailbirds of the NCP.

The court on November 26, 2023 had issued a 35-day arrest warrant against NCP leaders after the police reported to the court that they were absconding.

They have been asked to turn up in court in person with evidence within 35 days from the date of issue except the travel time.

Biplav has announced to stage a nation-wide torch rally on today evening (Tuesday), to burn an effigy of the judge of Kathmandu District Court at 3 pm on Wednesday and stage a nation-wide demonstration on Thursday.
