Japan's oldest person dies at 116

Fusa Tatsumi, the oldest person in Japan, has passed away, The Japan Times news report said.

According to a city official of Kashiwara in Osaka Prefecture where she lived, Tatsumi breathed her last on Tuesday at the age of 116.

Born on April 25, 1907, Tatsumi had recently spent most of her days in bed at a nursing home in Kashiwara, and was eating her favorite bean-paste jelly until Monday, according to the news report.

According to the Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry, she became the oldest living person in Japan in April last year following the death of a 119-year-old woman in Fukuoka.
