A meeting of the Koirala group of ruling Nepali Congress has come up with a decision that the Mahasamiti meeting scheduled for January 1-4 at Godawari in Lalitpur should not be postponed.

The meeting of the Koirala faction convened at Anupam Foodland at Battisputali on Wednesday took a decision to this effect.

Emerging from the meeting, NC Vice President Dhanraj Gurung told media-persons, that they were in favor of holding the Mahasamiti meeting as scheduled.

On the other hand, President Sher Bahadur Deuba is making preparations to hold the meeting only after the National Assembly elections citing that the cold weather would affect the meeting. The NA elections have been scheduled for January 25.

Earlier, in an office-bears’ meeting held at his residence in Dhumbarahi, Deuba had stated that it would be difficult for the Mahasamiti members to arrive in Kathmandu due to biting cold, if it were held as scheduled.

Hence, he suggested that the Mahasamiti meeting be postponed. However, General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa, who was also present in the meeting, did not agree to that proposal.

The meeting called by Shekhar group participated by Thapa today came up with a unanimous decision that the Mahasamit meeting should not be postponed.
