The State Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives held on Tuesday directed the government to recover the revenue the Ncell, a mobile service provider, owes to the state.

A meeting of the parliamentary committee has directed the Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies to put a stop to the transaction of Ncell shares until the high-level committee formed to probe the case comes up with its report.

Talking to Nepalkhabar, Ram Hari Khatiwada, the chairperson of the State Affairs Committee, said the meeting also directed the government to make timely amendments to the Telecommunications Act, 1997.

Meanwhile, the Committee has also sought details about actions taken by the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) over transactions carried out by Ncell so far.

The government has been directed to make necessary amendments to the telecommunication regulations so as to bring the Ncell under the ownership of the Nepal government by 2086 BS.
