Six newly appointed Justices of Supreme Court of Nepal have taken oath of office and secrecy on Thursday.

Justices Saranga Subedi, Abdul Aziz Musalman, Mahesh Sharma Paudel, Tek Prasad Dhungana, Sunil Kumar Pokharel and Balkrishna Dhakal took the oath of office from Chief Justice Bishowambhar Prasad Shrestha in the presence of President Ramchandra Paudel amidst a ceremony organized at the Office of the  President.

President Paudel on Wednesday appointed them as Supreme Court Justices on the recommendation of Judicial Council.

A meeting of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee (PHC) held in Singha Durbar yesterday morning endorsed the names of all justices and sent the name-list to Sheetal Niwas.

The PHC had begun hearing the complaints lodged against them since December 10 following the recommendation by the Judicial Council.

The Judicial Council on November 21 had recommended six individuals as Supreme Court Justices and sent their names to the Office of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee for hearing.

Subedi, Musalman, Paudel and Dhungana are the judges of High Court while Pokharel and Dhakal are senior advocates.

There is still one more post lying vacant for a Justice in the apex court. The administration of justice has been hit due to the insufficient number of Justices for a long time.
