Nepali Congress General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma has warned that if the province is not empowered by mid-March, his party will picket Singh Durbar, the main administrative center of the country.
Speaking at the Bagmati Province conclave in Kathmandu on Saturday, General Secretary Sharma said that the province should be empowered in line with the provisions and spirits of the Constitution.
"If the local level is not empowered by enacting laws related to civil affairs, public service, financial, and police by the time the Mahasamiti meeting of the Nepali Congress is held, we will gherao Singha Durbar," said Sharma.
"Whenever the provinces go to the conclave, one of the main complaints is that the states were formed but they were not given rights. They haven't asked for diamonds and pearls but just a book written in letters ensuring rights," he said, asking, "What is the reason for not being able to give it?"
He urged Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' not to skimp on giving rights to the Province governments as they are entitled to them in the federal political setup.
