Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal "Prachanda" has announced that universities will remain free from politics and the culture of meritocracy will be promoted in the upcoming days.
Prime Minister Prachanda said this while addressing the nation on the completion of one year of his term as the prime minister for the third term today.
“I appeal to the political parties, civil society and all the state organs to get ready for a “break in the continuity”. Now the top meetings will not be held for distribution of power, but for reformation of the universities, creation of a single view of the nation on foreign policy, employment and investment,” he said.
“The culture of meritocracy will be promoted and Tribhuvan University will be its starting point. Multifaceted steps are being taken to put an end to the existing anomalies of universities. We will soon introduce programs to produce quality and competitive manpower within the country,” he said.
He further said that he has tabled the Education Bill in Parliament, which is very necessary to bring a massive overhaul in the school education sector, but no one has dared to do so in the last seven years.
Having succeeded in delivering textbooks to all students before admission, Prime Minister Prachanda informed that the teacher-student ratio will be improved within this academic session and that Information Technology will be used to teach students English, Science and Mathematics in remote areas hit by a shortage of skilled teachers.
