Speaking at a press conference organized at the NEA, Managing Director Ghising said that 178 out of 239 consumers who were using electricity through dedicated feeders and trunk lines have cleared their areas.
He further said that the lines of those who failed to clear their dues have been disconnected. In a bid to collect the arrears, the NEA has started disconnecting the lines since December 22.
He further shared that 239 industrial, and other customers had been consuming electricity through dedicated and trunk lines for 20 hours a day while the people in general were facing load-shedding for up to 18 hours.
A total of 61 consumers who were using electricity through dedicated feeders and trunk lines are yet to clear Rs 22.24 billion as of mid-December 2023. Of them, Rs 12.5 billion has to be paid by nine consumers whose lines have been disconnected recently, said Ghising.
The action of disconnecting lines had started since March 18, 2020 with some industries in Biratnagar after they did not clear their dues despite repeated warnings.
