Taiwan an integral part of China, reiterates PM (with photos)

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has said that Nepal and China are close neighbors and trusted friends.

Inaugurating the Chinese New Year in Kathmandu on Sunday, he said that our relationship is based on the principle of peaceful coexistence and Panchsheel.

"As good friends, we have closely shared each other's sensitivities. Our relationship is based on the principles of peaceful coexistence and Panchsheel," Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister went on to say that Nepal is committed to the One China policy. "Our commitment in this regard is clear and firm. Our commitment will not be affected by the changes in internal and external affairs," he said.

Recalling the joint statement issued during his China visit, Dahal also clarified that Taiwan is a part of China.

"Taiwan is an integral part of China. Nepal has a clear view on it," he said, "This has been made clear in the joint statement issued during my recent China visit." We want to reiterate that we are against Taiwan's independence."

A US-backed president William Lai came to power in Taiwan on Saturday at a time when China is trying to annex Taiwan.

He made it clear that Nepali land would not be used against China.

The Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu organized a special program to celebrate Chinese New Year at Hotel Yak and Yeti on Sunday.

Prime Minister Prachanda, former Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal, CPN (Maoist Center) Vice Chairman Agni Sapkota, and Unified Socialist leader Jeevan Ram Shrestha reached Hotel Yak and Yeti to participate in the Chinese New Year celebrations on Sunday.

Similarly, other government employees including security agency officials also participated in the New Year celebrations.

Inaugurating the Chinese New Year in Kathmandu, the Prime Minister said that the relationship between the two countries is based on the principles of peaceful coexistence and Panchasheel.
