NA election: Voting over in all provinces; results to be out today itself

The voting held to elect 19 members of the National Assembly (NA) has been completed in seven provinces peacefully on Thursday.

Out of 367 voters in Koshi Province, 364 participated in the elections. Three representatives including Harka Sampang, the mayor of Dharan Sub Metropolitan City, Jayaprakash Gachchhadar, the chairperson of Morang Gramthan Rural Municipality and Jayanarayan Sah, the chairperson of Jhapa Rural Municipality did not participate in the elections.

Similarly, out 347 voters in Bagmati, five individuals including Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah abstained from voting. While 229 people voted in Gandaki, Dhorpatan Mayor Dev Kumar Nepali, who is absconding for co-operative fraud case, did not participate in the voting.

Likewise, out of 305 voters, two local level voters abstained from voting in Lumbini. Karnali recorded 100 percent voting. There were 196 voters in Karnali. Similarly, 226 representatives cast their votes in Sudurpaschim Province.

The counting of votes will start after 3 pm and the results will be announced today itself, Election Commission deputy spokesperson Shreedhar Panthi said.

The 19 seats in the Upper House of the Federal Parliament are falling vacant on March 3.

One polling station and two polling centers were established in each province for holding elections. The Election Commission had set 9 am to 3 pm today for voting.

A single vote of the Province Assembly member has a weightage of 53 and that of a chair and vice-chair of rural municipalities and mayor and deputy-mayor of urban municipalities carries a weightage of 19. The total vote weightage is 57 thousand 559.

There were 2,047 voters, including 549 Province Assembly members and 1,498 chairs and deputy chairs of rural municipalities and mayors and deputy mayors of urban municipalities.
