The CPN (Maoist Center) is set to be the largest party in the National Assembly from March 3 after it won five seats in the NA elections held today.
There are 16 lawmakers in the National Assembly from the Maoist Center. The tenure of three lawmakers -- Bina Pokharel, Hariram Chaudhary and Mahesh Kumar Mahara -- is expiring on March 3. Even in this case, the number of parliamentarians of the Maoist Center in the current National Assembly will be only 13.
Despite losing the one seat in Koshi, nominated by the ruling alliance, Srikrishna Adhikari won in Bagmati, Manrupa Sharma in Gandaki, Jhakku Prasad Subedi in Lumbini, Bishnu BK in Karnali and Renu Chand in Sudurpaschim.
After March 3, the number of seats of the Maoist Center in the National Assembly will reach 18.
So far, UML has 17 seats in the National Assembly. After March 3, the tenure of eight UML MPs will expire. However, one candidate of UML has won in the election held on Thursday. Therefore, after March 3, it will have 10 seats in the National Assembly.
Nepali Congress is currently in the third place with 10 seats in the National Assembly. However, after March 3, the tenure of four MPs will expire. Given this situation, the Congress will have only six seats.
Ten Congress candidates won in Thursday's election. With these wins, its number of seats in the National Assembly will reach 16, becoming the second largest party in the National Assembly after the Maoist Center.
With 10 seats, UML will be the third largest party in the National Assembly. The Unified Socialist Party will be the fourth largest party with eight seats in the National Assembly.
