New faces in National Assembly as 19 elected

Out of 20 posts that are going to fall vacant on March 3, 19 candidates have been elected to the National Assembly. One member will be nominated by the President on the recommendation of the government.

In the election held on Thursday , UML has won only one seat, while the ruling coalition has won the remaining 18 seats.

While the Congress won 10 seats, UML managed to win only one seat. The ruling Maoist Center fielded candidates for six seats but managed to win only five seats. Similarly, the Unified Samajbadi has secured two seats while Janata Samajbadi (JSP) Party has won one seat.

Koshi Province: Congress 1, UML 1
Nepali Congress leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula and UML's Rukmini Koirala have won the elections from Koshi Province.

Sitaula was elected to the National Assembly by defeating Uddhav Paudel, the candidate jointly fielded by CPN (UML) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party.

Sitaula received 5,295 votes while his rival Paudel got 4,562 votes.

Sitaula is likely to become the next National Assembly chairman. The incumbent chairman Ganesh Timilsina's term will expire on March 3.

UML's Rukmini Koirala has won as a member of the National Assembly from Koshi Province.

Koirala was elected by defeating ruling coalition candidate Champadevi Karki from the Maoist Center.

Koirala got 5086 votes. Her competitor Champadevi Karki received 4,992 votes.

Madhes Province: Congress 1, JSP 1
The candidates of the ruling coalition have won both the seats in the National Assembly elections from Madhes Province.

Ananda Prasad Dhungana of Nepali Congress and Puja Chaudhary of JSP were elected from Madhes.

Dhungana got 7,370 votes while JSP's Chaudhary got 7, 929 votes.

Bagmati Province: Congress 2, Maoist Center 1, Unified Socialist 1
All four candidates of the ruling coalition have won the National Assembly elections in Bagmati.

Maoist Center's Srikrishna Adhikari was elected with 6, 383 votes. Jit Jung Basnet, the candidate of the Congress, was elected with 6, 521 votes.

Similarly, Nepali Congress candidate Bishnu Kumari Pudasaini won the elections with 6, 626 votes. Unified Socialist's Ghanshyam Rijal was elected with 6, 512 votes (Dalit).

Lumbini Province: Congress 1, Maoist Center 1
Candidates of the ruling coalition have won both seats from Lumbini Province.

Candidates of the Nepali Congress and CPN (Maoist Center) were elected from Lumbini.

According to the results of the National Assembly elections, Bishnu Kumari Sapkota of the Congress and Jhakku Prasad Subedi of the Maoist Center have won the elections.

Sapkota secured 5,435 votes. Her competitor Tulsa KC of CPN (UML) got 2,867 votes.

Subedi defeated UML candidate Jhapendra GC. Bijaya Lakshmi Singh from RPP and Balgobinda Chaudhary from Janamat Party were in the fray for the elections.

Gandaki Province: Congress 2, Maoist Center 1
All three candidates of the ruling coalition have been elected to the National Assembly from Gandaki Province.

Maoist Center's Manrupa Sharma (women), and Congress leaders Kiran Babu Shrestha (other), and Padam Pariyar (disabled) have been elected.

While Manrupa won with 3,660 votes, rival UML's Samjhana Devkota got 2,553 votes.

Padam Pariyar of Congress got 3,774 votes while UML's Hemant Sherchan got 2,458 votes.

Similarly, Kiran Babu Shrestha of Congress won with 3, 808 votes while his nearest rival Chakra Bahadur Parajuli of UML got 2, 477 votes.

Karnali Province: Congress 1, Maoist Center 1, Unified Socialist 1
All three candidates of the ruling coalition have won National Assembly elections from Karnali Province.

Krishna Bahadur Rokaya of Rukum from Congress, Sabitri Malla of Dailekh from Unified Socialist, and Bishnu BK from Maoist Center have been elected.

Sudurpaschim Province: Congress 2, Maoist Center 1
The candidates of the ruling coalition have won three seats in the National Assembly from Sudurpaschim Province.

Baldev Bohara and Narayan Dutta Bhatta of the Congress and Renu Chand of the Maoist Center have been elected.

Bohara secured 4,328 votes, Bhatt 4,419, and Chand 4,328 got votes.
