The final match of the 23rd edition of the Rara Pokhara Gold Cup is taking place today (Saturday). Tribhuvan Army Club, and Three-Star Club are facing each other at Pokhara Stadium for the title. The game will start at 2 pm.
Tribhuvan Army Club has reached the finals of the competition four times but has not been able to win the title. Coming close to the title for the fifth time in the tournament, the TRC aims to create history by becoming champions in today's match.
Three-Star has won the title five times so far and will be looking for the sixth title today, thereby creating history.
Despite reaching the finals of the tournament in 2065, 2066, 2072, and 2075 BS, TRC failed to win the title in all four times.
Three-Star won the tournament title in 2063, 2067, 2069, 2071 and 2075 BS.
In the 16th edition of 2074, Three-Star, which has reached the final seven times in the tournament, lost to Nepal Police Club. Three-star wants to continue its proud legacy in Pokhara.
Three-star will be aiming to become the most successful club by winning the title for the sixth time in the competition.
Army coach Meghraj KC says that the team will forget the past and create a new history. He said that he had a plan to make the supporters of the army happy by winning the title in the field of Pokhara.
"We will not repeat history, we will make new history and make our supporters happy", he said.
The coach of Three-Star Club, Bikram Lama, said that he would correct the shortcomings of the semi-finals and win the title. "Army's team is organized, the final match will be difficult, but we will render efforts to win the title," Coach Lama said.
In the competition underway in Pokhara, Army reached the final by defeating Rising Star Football Club in the pre-quarterfinals, Sankata in the quarter-finals, and Church Boys United in the semi-finals.
Similarly, Three-Star defeated the hosts Sahara in the opening match, Paro Football Club of Bhutan in the quarter-finals, and Jawalakhel Youth Club in the semi-finals before making it to the finals.
The champion team of the tournament organized by Sahara Club Pokhara will receive a cash prize of Rs.1.2 million along with a trophy. The runner-up team will get Rs 600,000 along with a trophy.
Similarly, the best players in the five categories will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 25,000 each. The best player in the competition will get a scooter. Twelve teams including one foreign team are competing in the tournament.
