Nepal registers 7-run win against Canada in ODI Series

Nepal has defeated Canada by seven runs in the cricket match of the ODI Series on Thursday.

With captain Rohit Paudel’s four-wicket haul, Nepal bowled out Canada for 217 runs while the latter was chasing the 225-run target.

Similarly, Sompal Kami, Rijan Dhakal, Pawan Sarraf and Kushal Malla grabbed one-wicket each to restrict the opponent to low runs.

Despite Nocholas Kirton’s the highest 68-run score, Canada trailed by 7 runs to reach the target set by Nepal. Kirton hit seven fours off 99 balls. Likewise, Pargat Singh made 50 runs including 9 fours followed by Harsh Thaker and Aaron Johnson with 30 and 20 runs, respectively.  The other batsmen could not reach double-digit runs.

Earlier, electing to bat first after winning the toss at the TU Cricket Ground, Nepal notched up 224 runs losing nine wickets in the allotted 50 overs.

Kushal Bhurtel topped the score with 62 balls including nine fours and one six off 58 deliveries, followed by Aarif Sheikh with 38 runs including four fours off 50 balls. Similarly, Sompal Kami contributed 27 balls including one four and two sixes off 23 deliveries.

Kushal Malla, Bhim Sharki, Pawan Sarraf, and Surya Tamang hit, 20, 17, 15 and 10 runs respectively. The other batsmen could score double-digit runs.

In reply, Uday Bhagwan took the highest three wickets including one maiden giving away 40 runs in 8 overs, Saad Bin Zafar and Ishwarjot Sohi grabbed two wickets each for Canada. Likewise, Shahid Ahmadzai and Harsh Thaker claimed one wicket each. 

The ODI bilateral matches are being held between Nepal and Canada. The second match is scheduled for February 10 while the third and the final match will be held on February 12 at TU Cricket Ground.
