Verdict on Lalita Niwas land case put off

The verdict on Lalita Niwas Land embezzlement case has been postponed.

The hearing on the Lalita Niwas land case which had been taking place since January 15 concluded on Tuesday. And it was expected that the verdict would come today. However, the Special Court deffered it. 

The judges were working on the case till late Wednesday but failed to come up with the verdict. Its verdict is likely to come on Thursday.

The case was heard for 21 days starting January 15 in the bench of special court judges Khushi Prasad Tharu, Ram Bahadur Thapa and Ritendra Thapa.

Out of 175 defendants mentioned in this case, only 110 have come in contact, the others are still at large. 

The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority on February 5, 2020 had filed a case at the special court concluding that 136 ropanis of  Lalita Niwas land had been embezzled.

Former Deputy Prime Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar, former CIAA Chief Deep Basnyat, Bhatbhateni Supermarket owner Min Bahadur Gurung and, former ministers Chandradev Joshi, Dambar Shrestha, and former Secretary Chhabiraj Panta are mentioned as defendants in this case.

Similarly, former Secretary Dinesh Hari Adhikari along with various officials of the Department of Land Reforms and the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation have also been involved in this case.

Ram Kumar Subedi and Sobhakant Dhakal have been presented as the masterminds and middlemen behind the  in the charge-sheet.
