The Election Commission of Nepal (ECN) has confirmed Ranjita Shrestha as the chairperson of the Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP).
Resham Chaudhary on February 12 sent a letter to the ECN to update on the central committee following his election as the chairman through the NUP’s first general convention held on January 12.
In response to the letter, the ECN made it clear that Chaudhary is not qualified even to be a member of the party.
“The previous details of the NUP have maintained in line with the Rule 25 (6) of the Political Parties Regulations, 2074, we could not update the record of the constitutional amendment,” reads the decision issued by the ECN.
With the ECN’s decision, Ranjita Shrestha has been reinstated as the chairperson of the NUP.

The President had granted an amnesty on the recommendation of the government.
The Office of the President had also warned that Resham was not qualified for contesting for the post of chairperson of the NUP in the general convention.
