Parties are filing nominations today for the election of the chairman of the National Assembly to be held on Tuesday (March 12).
According to the Federal Parliament Secretariat, the registrations can be filed from 11 am to 1 pm. The list of candidates will be published today once the registration process is over.
The election of the National Assembly chairman is scheduled for tomorrow.
According to the agreement reached among the new coalition parties, the CPN (Maoist Center) will file the candidacy for the post of chairman and the CPN (UML) will file the candidacy for the post of vice chairman of the National Assembly. The Maoist Center has decided to field Narayan Dahal, the brother of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, for the post of chairman of the National Assembly.
Similarly, the main opposition Nepali Congress is fielding Yubaraj Sharma against Dahal, the candidate of the Maoist Center.
Dahal is poised to take the helm of the National Assembly given the strength of the newly formed coalition.
The Maoist Center, UML, CPN (Unified Socialist), and Janata Samajbadi Party have 39 lawmakers.
