A significant number of Swiss investors are coming to participate in the Nepal Investment Summit to be held in Kathmandu on April 28-29.
During a meeting with Finance Minister Barshaman Pun at the Finance Ministry today, Swiss Ambassador to Nepal, Daniel Meuli, said Swiss investors will attend the upcoming Nepal Investment Summit and pledged all kinds of support from her side to make it a success.
Ambassador Meuli said that the private sector of Switzerland is willing to invest in Nepal, according to the Finance Minister’s Secretariat.
“Given the growing environment for investment in Nepal, we have appealed to the private sector in Switzerland to invest in Nepal,” the Ambassador said, “I assure you that a significant number of Swiss investors will participate in the upcoming investment summit of Nepal.”
A Swiss Joint Mission for Financial Development is arriving in Kathmandu to study the possible sectors for investment in the coming week. The team will hold discussions with the government authorities as well as the representatives of the private sector.
Similarly, the Swiss Global Enterprises will send a delegation to Nepal on August 23, shared Ambassador Meuli. This team is interested in the import-export sector in collaboration with the private sector as well as in the airport management, according to Meuli.
Meanwhile, she also urged Finance Minister Pun to expedite the Swiss projects related to revenue mobilizations in municipalities and rural municipalities in Koshi Province.
In response to Ambassador Meuli, Finance Minister Pun said Switzerland is one of the oldest development partners of Nepal.
“Switzerland is one of the oldest department partners of Nepal. The bilateral ties between the two countries is friendly and will become friendlier in the upcoming days,” said Minister Pun, urging Switzerland to invest in mountaineering tourism, energy, and IT field.
During the meeting with Meuli, Minister Pun expressed commitments that the Nepal government will enact all kinds of laws necessary for creating friendly environment for investment.
“The government will ensure security for investment even by enacting necessary laws,” said Pun, “The private sector counts on me as I had become the finance minister 12 years ago, too.”
Similarly, Pun urged Ambassador Meuli to convey messages to the international community that Nepal is a virgin land for investment.
Peace fund to be arranged in upcoming budget
The remaining task of the transitional justice will be concluded in the fiscal year 2024/25, Pun told Meuli during the meeting.
Saying that peace fund for the conflict victims will be established in course of concluding the remaining task of the peace process, Pun urged Meuli to extent support to it.
“We have urged various countries including America and the UK to extend financial support and received positive responses from all the countries,” said Minister Pun, “We are confident that the Swiss government will also extend support to it.”
