The third edition of the Purbanchal United Nations Conference (PUNS) held in Biratnagar recently marked a dedicated effort towards addressing significant global challenges and promoting international cooperation.

A total of 44 youths participated in the conference addressing two significant international issues. The first committee (UNWOMEN) delved into "addressing the challenges in the enforcement of existing laws of gender-based violence and proposing measures for their better implementation" while the second committee (IOM) focused on "discussing the need for a comprehensive and collaborative global approach to managing migration".

Participants actively engaged in discussions, presenting insightful perspectives, diplomatic discourse, and solution-oriented proposals. The second day of committee sessions featured an hour-long informative session, with insights from experts including Ms Sarita Khanal, the Secretary of NGO Federation of Nepal, Morang and Dr Chandra Upadhaya, the Head of Sociology Department in Mahendra Morang Adarsha Multiple Campus.

Ms Rukmina Dahal, Chief of Province, Advocacy Forum, graced the event as the chief guest while Mr Basanta Adhikari, the founder of Bikalpa-An Alternative, Biratnagar, had been invited as the guest to the event.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest emphasized the importance of such conferences as a platform for the youth of Purbanchal Province, urging continuous participation and support.

With the conclusion of the Purbanchal Conference, the attention now shifts to the upcoming Lumbini Model United Nations, organized by the Youth Thinkers' Society and Everest International Model United Nations.

This conference, organized by the Youth Thinkers’ Society in partnership with the US
Embassy, set the stage for the forthcoming Everest International Model United Nations 2024 (EIMUN 2024) in Nepal.
