The Chief Minister of Bagmati Province, Shalikram Jamkattel, is taking the vote of confidence in the Provincial Assembly meeting today (Monday).
Chief Minister Jamkattel was rendered into minority after six ministers of Nepali Congress on March 6 resigned from their posts and withdrew their support to the government.
The Chief Minister has to take a vote of confidence within one month in case a party involved in the government withdraws its support as per the constitutional provision.
A meeting of the Business Advisory Committee held on Sunday scheduled a vote of confidence for Chief Minister Jamkattel for today, said the Provincial Secretariat.
Chief Minister Jamkattel will float a proposal for the vote of confidence in the Provincial Assembly meeting today and the provincial lawmakers will deliver their views on it.
Currently, there are three parties CPN (UML), CPN (Unified Socialist), CPN (Maoist Center) involved in the Bagmati Province government following the formation of a new alliance in the center.
Chief Minister Jamkattel on Thursday appointed Shailendra Man Bajracharya, the parliamentary party leader of Hamro Nepali Party (HNP) as the Minister for Culture, Tourism and Cooperatives in a bid to secure the vote of confidence.
In the 110-member Bagmati Province Assembly, the ruling coalition has 57 lawmakers including 27 lawmakers from UML, 21 from Maoist Center, 7 from Unified Socialist, and two from HNP. Fifty-six lawmakers are required to secure the vote of confidence.
Nepali Congress is the largest party in Bagmati Province with 37 lawmakers, Rastriya Prajatantra Party has 13 lawmakers including the speaker, and Nepal Workers Peasants and Party (NPWP) has three lawmakers.
