CPN (Unified Socialist) Party leader Dirgha Bahadur Sodari is set to become the Chief Minister of Sudurpashchim Province with the backing of CPN (UML).
Sodari is going to lay a claim to the post of the chief minister of the province with the support of CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (UML), Unified Socialist, Nagarik Unmukti Party and one independent lawmaker.
UML, which was earlier reluctant to support Sodari, gave up its stance eventually to keep the ruling coalition intact, leaders have said.
“While lawmakers are currently collecting signatures, UML has agreed to support Sodari's nomination. However, the lawmakers loyal to Resham Chaudhary of NUP are against Sodari,” said Unified Socialist lawmaker Prakash Rawal.
Sodari commands a majority of 27 lawmakers even without the support of lawmakers loyal to Resham, Rawal said.
The support of 26 lawmakers is required to form the government after two lawmakers were relieved of their posts in the 53-member Sudurpashchim Province Assembly.

NC has 18 lawmakers, Maoist Center (11) including the speaker, 10 from UML, six from NUP, one from Rastriya Prajatantra Party and one independent lawmaker in the Sudurpashchim Province Assembly.
