Israel has carried out a strike inside Iran, BBC reported citing a US official, in a move that threatens to push the region deeper into conflict.

Multiple explosions were heard near a military base in Isfahan, according to reports from Iranian semi-official FARS news, where fighter jets are located in the northwest part of the city.

Meanwhile, flights have been suspended over several cities, the state news agency reported Friday.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel will make its "own decisions" when responding to Iran's unprecedented weekend airstrikes, most of which were intercepted. Iran launched the attack in retaliation for a suspected Israeli strike on its embassy compound in Syria earlier this month.

Iran has been on high alert after Israel said it would respond to an Iranian attack against it on Saturday night.

More than 300 drones and missiles were fired in Israel by Iran during its unprecedented attack a few days ago. (with inputs from agencieis)
