CPN (UML)’s Suhang Nembang has taken the lead with 345 votes against Nepali Congress candidate Dambar Khadka as the vote count is underway for the by elections in Ilam 2.

Earlier, NC’s Khadka was taking the lead in the vote-count in ward 1, 2 and 3. Suhang Nembang of CPN-UML took the lead with 345 votes after the counting of votes was over in ward 1, 2, 3 and 4 of Phakphokthum Rural Municipality.

Earlier, Suhang was trailing behind Dambar Khadka as the votes were counted in the ward 1, 2 and 3 of this rural municipality.

Ward 4 was taken as a stronghold of the Nepali Congress. In the election held on November 20, 2022, Khadka had taken the lead with 1,019 votes in this ward. While UML's Subas Nembang got only 868 votes.

However, in this by-election, the NC could not save the votes it received in the previous elections.

Suhang, the son of former Speaker and late lawmaker Subas Nembang, has widened his lead with more than 345 votes from this ward.

The NC has now fallen behind in this ward where it was leading 17 months ago. Khadka has received only 539 votes from this ward.
