Govt allocates Rs 50.74 bln for energy sector; 900 MW to be generated

The government has allocated Rs 50 billion 740 million for the energy sector in the fiscal year 2081/082 BS.

Presenting the fiscal budget in the joint meeting of the Federal Parliament in New Baneshwar on Tuesday, Finance Minister Pun said Rs 50 billion 740 million has been allocated for the development of the energy sector.

Minister Pun went on to say that 900 megawatts of electricity will be generated and connected to the national grid in the coming fiscal year. With this the total production of electricity in the country will reach 4,005 megawatts in the next fiscal year.

The government will also involve the private sector in the construction of transmission lines, according to Minister Pun.

To meet the electricity demand in the dry season, the government will start building Budhigandaki Hydroelectricity (1200 MW) project, Dudhkoshi (670 MW), Nalsingh Gad (reservoir-based 470 MW), Naumure Multipurpose Project (280 MW).  

Similarly, Upper Arun (163 MW), Jagadulla (106 MW), and Tamakoshi-V (100 MW), Chairnpur Seti Hydropower Project (210 MW) and Modi A (42 MW) will be constructed, according to the budget speech.

A survey will be made for the Sunkoshi III hydropower project and Karnali (Chisapani) Engineering Design project (10,800 MW) will be initiated.
