Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party leader of Gandaki Province, Surendra Pandey, is becoming the Chief Minister of the province today.
A joint bench of justices Kumar Regmi and Sunil Kumar Pokharel on Monday directed to appoint Pandey as the Chief Minister in his capacity as the leader of the largest party.
Outgoing Chief Minister Khagaraj Adhikari was relieved of his post after the Supreme Court invalidated his trust vote.
The Supreme Court had issued a mandamus to the Gandaki Province Chief directing the latter to appoint Pandey in line with Article 168 (3) of the Constitution of Nepal within 48 hours.
NC parliamentary party leader Pandey is becoming the Chief Minister for the second time today following the second general elections.
He has to take the vote of confidence in the next 30 days. In the 60-member Provincial Assembly, 31 lawmakers are required to secure the trust vote.
There are 27 lawmakers from NC, 22 from CPN (UML), eight including speaker from CPN (Maoist Center), and one independent lawmaker in Gandaki Province.
