Host West Indies has entered the ‘Super Eight’ of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
West Indies managed to book berth among the top eight teams by clinching a mammoth 104-run win on Afghanistan in a group stage match held on Tuesday morning.
Afghanistan was bundled out for 114 runs while it was chasing the 219-run target set by West Indies in 16.2 overs.
To restrict to such a low-run, Obed McCoy took the highest three wickets conceding 14 runs followed by Gudakesh Motie and Akeal Hosein with two wickets each while Andre Russell and Alzarri Joseph claimed one wicket each for West Indies.
Ibrahim Zadran topped the score with 38 runs followed by Azmatullah Omarzai with 23 runs while Rashid Khan and Karim Janat contributed 18 and 14 runs respectively.
Earlier, invited to bat first after losing the toss, West Indies notched up 218 runs losing five wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Nicholas Pooran topped the score including six fours and eight sixes off 53 deliveries. Similarly, Johnson Charles scored 43 runs followed by Shai Hope and Rovman Powell contributed 25 and 26 runs, respectively. The other batsmen could not reach double-digit runs.
With this loss to West Indies, Afghanistan was relegated to the group runner-up. Afghanistan has already booked berth in the Super Eight.
