CPN-UML leader Prabhu Sah has quit the party to file his nomination for the elections to the House of Representatives (HoR) as an independent candidate from Rautahat-3.

Sah announced to quit the party one day after central member Ghanashyam Bhusal did so, dealing a blow to the main opposition UML.

Sah told Nepalkhabar that he abandoned the party after the UML formed an electoral alliance with Janata Samajbadi Party even though he was offered a ticket to contest the polls from Rautahat-3.

He informed that a group led by Sah fielded on Sunday independent candidates in all the 16 constituencies allocated for the JSP by the UML.

"We have quit the UML after it forged an electoral alliance with the JSP. We have fielded independent candidates in all the constituencies allocated for JSP by the UML," said Sah.

Commenting on Sah's move, a UML leader said Sah betrayed the party even though party chair KP Oli offered him three tickets – one for the federal level and the other two tickets for the provincial level (Rautahat-3 (Ka) and (Kha).

"Sah did not file nominations until 3 pm. At 4:30 pm, there had been reports that he filed his candidacy on an independent basis. He betrayed the party," said he.
