Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the export of electricity from Nepal through the Indian grid to Bangladesh is the first example of sub-regional cooperation in the energy sector.
Modi spoke about the project at a joint press conference held after a bilateral meeting with Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in New Delhi, the capital of India today.
"The export of electricity from Nepal to Bangladesh through the Indian grid has become the first example of sub-regional cooperation in the energy sector," Modi said while mentioning the achievements with Bangladesh.
Currently, Nepal and Bangladesh have agreed to export 40 MW of electricity. During Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal's recent visit to India, India approved to export up to 50 MW of electricity to Bangladesh through the National Grid of India.
Nepal and Bangladesh are making necessary preparations to ink the final agreement to this end.
At a joint press conference, Modi said that Bangladesh will also be part of the ‘Neighborhood First’ Policy, Act East Policy, Vision SAGAR, and Indo-Pacific Vision.
In response, Hasina said that India is a key trusted neighbor of Bangladesh.
Agreements have been reached between the two countries in areas including the Teesta River Conservation Project, defense, and connectivity.
