Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Rabi Lamichhane, has said preparations are underway to form a high-level commission to investigate big scams of corruption.

In a meeting of the House of Representatives today, the Minister said the formation of such a committee is afoot to identify 25 corruption scams and investigate them.

The prevention of corruption is attainable if there is a collective political commitment to investigating into the 'big scams of corruption' that were reported at various times.

He said, he and the incumbent government are making efforts to combat corruption and it has been reflected in the government's policies and programs for the upcoming fiscal year.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister said, "There are still public complaints that the constitutional commission meant for combating corruption and existing institutional structures have failed to achieve results due to various obstructions, he said, adding that the government is positive for drafting a law regarding the property ceiling."

In the meeting, lawmaker Prem Suwal questioned the people/institutions facing the corruption cases since the Panchayat system while Bidhya Bhattarai grilled the government about its reputation for responding to the disaster risks.

In response, the Minister said the Temporary Housing Grant Procedure, 2081 BS has been drafted and sent to the Finance Ministry for approval.

He said the House, government, and the entire society have been marred by the procedural dilly-dallying.

In reply to a question by Pradip Paudel about the passport issue and the misappropriation of the cooperative funds, said this is an appropriate time to comment on the issue which is under sub-judice at the court. (RSS)
