An aircraft of Buddha Air flying to Kathmandu from Pokhara has been diverted to Bhairahawa after it could not land at Tribhuvan International Airport due to poor visibility.
Buddha Air flight number 664, an ATR 72 aircraft, bound for Kathmandu, was forced to make an emergency landing in Bhairahawa due to inclement weather, spokesperson of Pokhara Airport, Jasoda Regmi said.
The aircraft with 72 passengeres on board which was scheduled to fly at 7:25 am took off only at 9 am. It flew for around 20 minutes in the sky and diverted to Bhairahawa due to bad weather, the source said.
Currently, the passengers are in Bhairahawa and the flight will take off once the weather clears in Kathmandu, said Regmi.
Buddha Air conducted two flights to Kathmandu from Pokhara this morning. Of them, one has already landed at Tribhuvan International Airport while the other was diverted to Bhairahawa due to poor visibility.
Likewise, the flights have been grounded at Pokhara International Airport due to inclement weather. Similarly, the flights to Janakpur and Simara airports have not started.
On the international front, Air China which was scheduled to land at TIA at 10:55 was diverted due to bad weather.
Although other international flights were "held" for a while, they have now started landing, TIA General Manager Niraula said.
