Palesha, who won medal for Nepal in Paralympics, received with heroic welcome (photos)

The Para Taekwondo team including Palesha Goverdhan, who won a historic medal for Nepal in Para Taekwondo in the Paris Paralympics, was given a grand welcome in Kathmandu on Wednesday.

Palesha won a bronze medal for Nepal in the Paris Paralympics in the match held on Friday night.

She won the bronze medal in the women's under 57kg weight group of the K-44 category, becoming the first Nepali athlete to win a medal in Paralympics (Olympics).

Para taekwondo player Palesha, who arrived in home country on Wednesday morning, was received with a heroic welcome in Kathmandu. The team including Palesha was rallied around a city.

A congratulatory rally which began from the airport passed through Gaushala, Old Baneshwar, Maitidevi, Dillibazaar, Baghbazaar, Bhadrakali, Sahidgate before arriving to the premises of the National Sports Council in Tripureshwar.

In the women's under Taekwondo 57kg event under the K-44 category match held on Friday night, Palesha defeated Serbia's Marija Michev by 15-8 points to bring a coveted bronze medal for herself and the country.

The Paralympics is the largest sporting event for athletes with disabilities. The K-44 category is specifically for athletes who have lost one arm below the elbow.
